Hey friends! As the leaves turn golden and snow begins to dust the peaks, it’s the perfect time to reflect on an incredible 2025 season with CBMBA and CBCC. This community continues to amaze us year after year—thank you all for making it so special. 🙏
September stayed busy with gorgeous weather and vibrant fall colors, feeling almost like midsummer. CBCC crews kept working hard, clearing fallen trees, picking up trash, extinguishing fires, and sharing tips on caring for our backcountry. Have you ridden the Dyke Trail recently? It’s in great shape. Pair it with the new Lake Irwin Trail and the updated Wagon Trail for a wonderful loop right from town.
The Lake Irwin Trail is a game-changer—trading the dusty road for a peaceful forest path up to the lake. Community support was outstanding: nearly 200 volunteers joined workdays on July 30 and the overnight event August 16-17, building two miles of new trail. Overall, 225 volunteers contributed 2,178 hours this season. Other projects included the Sideshow Trail connector, a reroute on Baxter Gulch, a link from Slate River Road to Gunsight Bridge with CB Land Trust, and improvements to Dyke and Wagon Trails.
The reggae fundraiser at Budd Barn was a highlight—Kabaka Pyramid and Third World brought fantastic energy, with Zuni beers and margaritas from Mountain Spirits. Big thanks to Dorothy and Russell Budd for hosting, and to everyone who came out to celebrate and support CBMBA.
Nine CBCC crew members maintained over 480 miles of trails, five days a week. The Backcountry Outreach Crew set up at busy trailheads to help with parking, info, and ethics. They also monitored 1,700+ campsites weekly, removing all sorts of items (including a bong, a toilet, and abandoned tents). Partnerships with Gunnison Ranger District tackled tree removal, retaining walls, and trail decommissioning.
