Hello Winter: Fresh Snow Arrives in Crested Butte ❄️

11/17/2025 - Well, the snow dances paid off. Over the weekend we picked up a beautiful 7 inches—right at the top of the forecast—and a little more is drifting down tonight. The mountains are finally wearing their winter white, and it feels like the season has truly begun. There's something quietly magical about these early November storms in the Elk Mountains.

A love letter to winter in Colorado's small mountain towns

Even better news: Crested Butte Nordic has already groomed the Lily Lake Trail, so cross-country skiing is open and ready. It's the perfect low-key way to ease into winter—peaceful glides through the trees with incredible views and crisp mountain air.

A few friendly reminders to make your outing enjoyable:

  • Dogs are welcome (leashed, please) and don't forget to pack out what they leave behind.
  • Parking is limited and often requires 4WD this time of year. The safest spot is the Y on Kebler Pass Road—park there and walk the short distance in (roadside parking isn't allowed).
  • Early-season conditions mean rocks and logs are still hiding under the snow. For your skis—and your knees—please stay on the groomed trail.
